Pyrex Day

Had a day last weekend where it was Pyrex motherlode day. Hadn't had one of those in a long time! Each piece either completes a set for me or was one I didn't have already - except the pink daisy
divided dish.

The blue barcode piece was expensive, but when was I likely to stumble into another for less? Especially since it was the in-between size of the two I had at home.

Thrifting has mostly been a bust lately. I picked up a few Butterfly Gold dishes for my mom's ever expanding set. Other than that, not much at all. Unfortunately, schedule conflicts keep me from yard sale-ing or estate sales, so no luck on that front either. The antique stores around me have more Pyrex right now than they've had in months, but it's all expensive. These days I spend my fun money budget in one trip and feel like I need to stay home until the next payday.

Leave it to me to complain on the same post where I'm showing a bunch of pretty happy stuff I collect!

Hope you're finding neat stuff!

A couple of thrift finds and a canister update

First up, my couple of thrift finds:

This Weibro cake keeper is coppertone and super shiny, which normally wouldn't be my thing. But it was in such good shape and the kitchen utensils theme is right up my alley, so it had to come home with me.

One of the things that I discovered when researching this cake carrier is that Weibro also made the metal dancing dutch couple trash can that was in my grandmother's bedroom for as long as I can remember. I hadn't thought about that trash can in....oh, probably two decades or more. It's neat the things you discover by accident :-)

This Foley sifter was another happy discovery I didn't know existed. I was on the lookout for Foley measuring cups and spoons to add to the incomplete set my mom gave me years ago, before I ever really became a vintage kitchenware collector. So the Foley stuff dovetails nicely. Plus you can't beat that aqua handle. Love it!

So this was my incomplete canister set as found. Barely a few scraps of silver left on the sugar canister and almost none at all on the coffee.

I bought this silver Pilot pen with an extra fine tip (0.5) at Hobby Lobby and did the best I could filling in the missing lettering. The "S" in sugar was super-tricky. I might be able to clean it up a little more with a safety pen, but I was ready to call it quits.

I filled in a lot less on the tea canister, leaving it pretty much original. It blends better to me in person than it does in this picture, I think. I sure wish I knew who made these canisters and how many colors they actually came in!

Hope your junkin' week has been fun and productive!

Thrift finds this week

Found this incomplete canister set at a consignment store that doesn't really deal vintage, but I've found a few vintage pieces at before. It was sitting on a discount table and I got it for 99 cents!

They are butter yellow with silver lettering, and missing the largest flour canister in the set. I think I'm on a mission now to find out just how many colors they were made in. Once upon a time I bought a partial set in avocado green for a quarter at a yard sale but only one was in decent condition, so I donated them when I was going through one of my periodic 'stuff' purges.

Here they are with my other keepers. I hope I can find a silver pen and possibly fill in the missing lettering. I'm afraid I'll do a bad job at it but I'd like to try especially since I have the other canisters to use as guides to see where I need to fill in.

My other thrift finds: a wildflower canister for a buck, snowflake blue teacups and saucers for 39 cents apiece for my set, some corningware cradles, and more Butterfly Gold casseroles I could not pass up for 3 and 4 dollars each. And they even had their lids with them.

And finally, I paid 4 dollars for this sweet, unmarked turquoise bread keeper at a hole-in-the-wall thrift store I'd never visited before. My husband also found a really nice stack of records, so we are definitely aiming to go back sometime soon.

I kinda missed posting about my husbands birthday trip, so hopefully I'll get to that next time.

Hope you are finding cool loot!
